CCI wins finals and emerges Champions of Purshottam Shield Tournament’23

Cricket Club of India after being put to bat first at PJ Hindu Gymkhana Ground in Mumbai in the all important finals of the prestigious Purshottam Shield Tournament made a healthy total of 320/7 in 45 overs. After losing both the openers for ducks and 3 wkts in the first 3 overs, it was no.3 bat Akash Anand holding fort from one end to score 61 off 65 balls while stitching a vital partnership with Chinmay Sutar who scored 96 off 86 balls at no.5 missing out on a well deserved century. Hard-hitting experienced all-rounders Sujit Nayak (54 runs) and Akash Parkar (62* off 31 balls) played their roles at the middle order to ensure CCI reached a more than decent total on board to defend. From the bowlers, Deepak Shetty with 4/52 was the pick of the lot.

Payyade Sports Club in reply were all out for 264 runs with in-form opener Bhupen Lalwani scoring 56 off 65 balls. Omkar Ghule (53 runs), Tanush Kotian (69 runs) and Pratik Shukla (43 runs) at the middle order fought it out but it didn’t seem enough because Payyade lost quick wickets at the top which inflicted in maximum damage in their chase. From the bowlers, Irfan Mallik with 3/26 and Saksham Parashar with 2/53 were the pick of the lot from CCI.

Result: CCI won the match by 56 runs, Chinmay Sutar declared ‘Player of the Match”
