Bhupen’s unbeaten 84* goes in vain as John Bright CC clinch a win in U25 Rathod Trophy’23

John Bright CC after being put to bat first on Bombay Gymkhana’s homeground batted brilliantly scoring 201/5 in 20 overs. Openers Armaan Jaffer (46 off 28 balls) and Meer Rizvi (55 off 36 balls) gave a flying start of 110 runs. Omkar Malekar who came at no.4 further took the momentum ahead scoring a quickfire 51 off 29 balls as he smashed 7 fours and 1 six. From the bowlers, Bhooshan and Mayur Barade with 2 wkts each were the pick of the lot.

Bombay Gymkhana who boast of an equally powerful line up were off to an equally flying start as openers Bhupen Lalwani and Aakash Savla (66 off 46 balls) put on 114 runs in 13.3 overs. Bhupen batted from start to end top scoring in the match with 84* off 53 balls smashing 6 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 158.49. However, post the wicket of Aakash, Bhupen lacked support from the other end as they eventually fell short of 13 runs scoring 188/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

Result: John Bright CC won the match by 13 runs.
